2023 year in review
This year has been a revelation for me, as I've truly discovered my passion for photography. In previous years, I dabbled in various creative pursuits like music, writing, and illustration, but finding my true enjoyment in photography has been a blessing. In this Year in Review article, I will reflect on some of my favorite moments from 2023, highlighting my top ten albums, favorite shows, and the venues I've had the privilege to visit.
Since June, I've had the opportunity to capture the essence of over 30 concerts, events, and festivals featuring more than 90 bands and artists across 11 different venues in 6 cities. Here are some of my standout experiences:
Favorite Music Festival: The 2023 Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival
Though my bias may stem from this being the first event I photographed, the festival is an incredible experience for both music and beer enthusiasts. I eagerly anticipate the 2024 festivals; they are sure to be a blast.
Favorite Festival: Witchcraft Beerfest
What could be more enjoyable than a Halloween Beerfest in the woods with costumes encouraged? Even for non-beer drinkers, this festival is a delight with costume contests, DJ dance parties, pie-eating contests, chainsaw carving, and more. I can't wait to return.
Favorite Venue: Anchor Rock Club, Atlantic City
Photographing 15 shows at Anchor Rock Club this year, from local bands to national touring acts, has been a pleasure. This venue excels in versatility, and I'm grateful for its photographer-friendly atmosphere and consistently excellent shows throughout the year. I eagerly anticipate what the next year holds.
Favorite Concert: Hail the Sun, Divine Inner Tension Tour
Selecting a favorite concert is challenging, as they're all special. However, seeing Hail the Sun for the first time, part of the Divine Inner Tension Tour, was a standout moment for me. The entire lineup, including Glasslands, Kaonashi, and Sweetpill, left a lasting impression, and I've been immersed in their music since the show.
Top Ten Albums of the Year (in no particular order):
Hail the Sun - Divine Inner Tension
The Gaslight Anthem - History Books
Taking Back Sunday - 152
Spanish Love Songs - No Joy
Closure in Moscow - Soft Hell
Hot Mulligan - Why Would I Watch
Bear Ghost - Jiminy
Anberlin - Convicted
Sleep Token - Take Me Back To Eden
Migrant Returned - The Dear Hunter
I extend special thanks to the people, bands, and artists who supported and trusted me to deliver results. Without them, I wouldn't be pursuing my passion. Special acknowledgments go to Steve Weiss (Norstep), Jon Henderson and the Good Tricycle Productions team, Steve Freeman, Carpet Ride, The Family Crest, Ceremony East Coast, Isn't It Always, Miss Cantaloupe, David Earl, The Juliana Theory, Gutter Drunk, Hail the Sun, Surf Haven, Low Cut Connie, Molly Ringworm, Cult Tides, everyone at Anchor Rock Club, and all those I've met along the way.
I look forward to Seeing you all next year.
Thank you
